A residential
construction practice.
Serving Southern Vermont and Westchester County, New York. Renovation, remodel, and new construction, from kitchens to whole-house projects, additions to ground-up builds. Every project is quoted at a fixed price and scheduled in writing. The big decisions are yours; we will carry the rest.
The Kitchen
The Bath
The EntryFrom kitchen remodels
to ground-up construction.
Our practice spans new construction, full renovations, and the focused remodels that matter most to daily life. Each project is scoped to fit the home and the way you want to live in it.
Custom Builds
Building a home from the foundation up, designed for the way you intend to live in it.
Renovations
Reworking what is already there. Scope ranges from a full-house remodel to a single room reimagined.
Kitchen and Bath
The two rooms most worth getting right. Layout, finishes, and the details encountered every day.
Exterior
Decks, outbuildings, and accessory dwelling units that extend the way the property is used.
How your project unfolds.
A process built for the satisfaction of our clients and followed through on every project.
Walk-through
We meet on site, listen to what you are imagining, and measure what is there. The conversation begins in the home itself.
Scoped
We return with a defined scope and a fixed price for the work as written. Payment is structured so that we continue to earn it as the project progresses.
Preparation
Before any wall comes down, we look closely at what stands behind it. Issues uncovered in planning are nearly always less costly than those uncovered in construction.
Construction
Work begins on schedule and proceeds with care. The big decisions are yours; the logistics of getting the work done are ours.
Handoff
A final walk-through, a punch list resolved properly, and a standing invitation for whatever the home needs next.
From our family
to yours.
We are Suzie and James Marais. A husband-and-wife team raising our young family in Manchester, Vermont. The hills here, the woods, and the seasons are all part of why we built this practice in this place.
Our name comes from avontuur, the Dutch word for adventure, and from the old habit of naming people for what they throw themselves into. Building a home is that kind of undertaking. We would like to be on the adventure with you.

Tell us about
your project.
Every engagement begins with a conversation about the home and what you want it to become. A few short questions help us understand what you are imagining. We will be in touch within two business days.
What do you have in mind?
